Newport businesses urged to sign up

Newport City Council has received confirmation that Newport will receive up to £6 million to help deliver a local superfast broadband scheme.

It will help Newport transform into a ‘super-connected city’ by offering access to a superfast network infrastructure, helping us to compete with the world’s top digital cities.

Councillor Bob Bright, Leader of Newport City Council, said: “The availability and use of superfast broadband across our city is vital as we develop as a technology city.

“It is important that we work with businesses to help them take advantage of this opportunity and grow the success of our city together.”

In Newport, the Super Connected Cities Project is aiming to make sure that micro, SMEs and larger businesses have the chance to connect to a superfast network, making their broadband speeds superfast, or ultrafast where possible, by 2015.

Under the scheme, businesses will be able to apply for a voucher that will contribute to the cost of the initial connection.
