Spectrum Internet triumphs with award in ‘Excellence in Technology Innovation’

Spectrum Internet, Wales’ leading independent internet service provider (ISP), was ecstatic to win an award in ‘Excellence in Technology Innovation’ at the Monmouthshire Business Awards on Friday 23rd October. Having entered the Award in August, Spectrum Internet was shortlisted in the category and waited eagerly to find out the result on Friday evening at the Celtic Manor Resort.

Continuously looking to adopt new and innovative technologies to benefit a range of communities and businesses, particularly in Monmouthshire, Spectrum Internet always focusses on finding a solution designed for each customer need, no matter what measures need to be taken.

Having connected many parts of Monmouthshire such as Devauden, Penallt and Shirenewton, Spectrum Internet was the first company in the UK to do micro-trenching to provide Shirenewton Primary School with a Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) connection. As well as using innovative technology to lay micro-trenching, Spectrum Internet conducted a pilot to explore other means of laying fibre optic cables by using disused utility ducts.

Sadly, there are many small areas in Wales where larger ISP providers have not made any plans to upgrade the infrastructure resulting in certain areas being left poorly connected. As a result, Spectrum Internet doesn’t build speculatively and, instead, aims to invest and upgrade the local exchanges in ‘not-spot’ areas that have poor connectivity, working with the Welsh Government Broadband Support Scheme and Monmouthshire County Council to provide new infrastructure.

Giles Phelps, Managing Director of Spectrum Internet who received the award from Edwina Hart AM, on the evening, says: “The Spectrum team and I are thrilled to have won this award – we always work hard to find new ways of connecting our customers who live in poorly connected areas. It’s really rewarding knowing that we have helped business and communities in Monmouthshire through the services that we provide, and I can’t thank the Monmouthshire Business Awards enough for recognising our dedication to trying new technologies to improve the broadband in the area.”

Spectrum Internet was also a proud sponsor of the ‘Young Entrepreneur Award’. Giles Phelps was pleased to have chosen and awarded the title to business start-up ‘Write from the Heart’ as the winner of the category for 2015.
