Penallt FTTP full fibre broadband project

Penallt, we’re putting future-proof full fibre broadband into your community

We are working within the Penallt community to give FTTP full fibre broadband that you and your family deserve.

We’re offering Penallt Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband deals that are too good to say no to, with full fibre broadband speeds and service that’ll knock your socks off there’s no question, you need Spectacular Spectrum fibre broadband for your home.

With download speeds starting at 100mbps and reaching as high as 1gbps. It all depends on how fast you want to go. With Spectrum there are no limits, literally.

“We’ve been deprived of good broadband for many years, struggling with just 1Mbps speeds. All this has changed thanks to Spectrum’s innovative way of delivering ultrafast broadband to Shirenewton Primary School.”

Jayne Edwards, Executive Head Teacher, Shirenewton Primary School.

Penallt FTTP full fibre broadband progress

We’re really excited to get your property connected to full fibre broadband, but sadly it’s not something that happens over night. But not to worry, we have a plan.

To make this project a success we ideally need £200,000 in vouchers. So the more business vouchers worth £5,500 and residential vouchers worth £1,500 the quicker we can deploy our FTTP full fibre broadband across Penallt.

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher logo

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

The Government’s Gigabit Voucher Scheme gives grants to businesses and home owners toward the installation and activation of connecting to FTTP full fibre broadband.

The scheme provides vouchers for £5,500 for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), and £1,500 for residents to help with the costs of providing FTTP full fibre broadband to your address. This means that you’ll be able to order gigabit capable connections and future-proof your property with ultrafast gigabit speeds. You can put these vouchers toward your part of the costs of a Project.

FAQ’s on the Voucher Scheme

Claiming a voucher is easy. The first step is picking your new gigabit capable package with Spectrum Internet, which you can do on the Penallt Community page here. Once you’ve placed your order on our website our Provisioning team will be able to apply for your voucher on the DCMS portal.

When DCMS have your application, they will email you to confirm that you are happy to use your voucher on Spectrum Internet’s Penallt Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband projectOnce that’s completed DCMS will hold the funds and will release them to us once the fibre work has been completed.

So, to claim a voucher all you have to do is pick your package, complete and two or two and we’ll do the rest.

The voucher scheme was put in place by the UK Government in November 2017 to help internet service providers and altnets install future-proof, gigabit broadband into communities and business areas that suffer with poor broadband speeds and reliability.

Vouchers are collected in densely populated areas so ISP’s like us can use the funds to connect properties and install Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband. It’s important to get as many vouchers in a certain location as possible to keep the cost of the project down so everyone who signs up doesn’t miss out on a gigabit capable connection for their property.

There’s no catch with the voucher scheme. It’s there to help future-proof your businesses and your communities. Rules of the scheme are as followed:

  • In order to qualify for a voucher, you must take a new broadband connection which meets the Scheme rules agreed to by your supplier and which are available here: gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk.
  • The new connection must at least double your current broadband speed.
  • The contract for service that you enter with your supplier must be for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Where multiple businesses operate from the same location and use the same internet connectiononly one voucher can be applied for.
  • When you agree to take a new connection from your supplier supported by a voucher, your supplier must send DCMS a request for a voucher on your behalf using the online portal provided. You must agree within 28 days by responding to an email DCMS send to the email address you provide to your supplier. If you do not give your agreement within this time your supplier’s request for a voucher on your behalf may be cancelled.
  • Your new connection must be installed within 12 months of the offer of a voucher. If your supplier is not able to deliver your new connection by this date then the voucher will expire and the grant will be no longer be available.
  • Residents may only participate in the Scheme and benefit from vouchers where they are part of projects which SMEs are the principal financial beneficiaries. For the purpose of the Scheme “resident” means a beneficiary in the UK who is not an enterprise.

FAQ’s on connecting your home

Our projects team have separated the Penallt project into phases. Our team will communicate with you once the Penallt phases have been finalised within the company. We can then give you an estimated time of delivery into your phase and into your home.

We work closely with you to discuss the best possible location for the fibre to be installed into your home. Right now, you may have the perfect place for where you want us to go. However, it may not be the ideal location. You will have a property survey before any work is carried out and the work will be agreed with you.

Some properties may have long driveways or front gardens that may make it difficult to get to you. These properties may have to pay excess construction charges for this type of work. However, our team will work and communication with you about this.

Due to the communications with Spectrum Internet’s team you will have and will be receiving you’ll be kept up to date on when the best time is to cancel your current service with your existing provider.

Out of contract with your current provider and don’t know what to do? You can become a Spectrum Internet customer now. We can connect you to the existing infrastructure on a short-term contract and once our Ultrafast Fibre has been installed would simply and easily switch you to it.

Right now, we haven’t installed the fibre infrastructure in your area. Unfortunately installing full fibre broadband isn’t a quick, simple and easy task. To install Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband we have to jump through many hoops. These hoops include:

Planning permission and section 50’s from the council, approval from landowners, enough interest in the area to make the project commercially viable, the right funds.

General FAQ’s

The infrastructure we are installing into your area is called FTTP (Fibre-to-the-Premesis). One of the many benefits of this technology is that it doesn’t use the copper network that is currently in the ground.

The copper infrastructure right now is what you are using for your broadband and telephone line. When our full fibre broadband is installed you can still use the copper for your telephone line but the fibre is what you’ll be using for your broadband. Many people will cancel their telephone line and either use their mobile phones or VoIP telephone systems to make calls

Did you know that in 2027 Openreach are planning on turning off the copper infrastructure. Read more about this here.

The internet will be faster, more reliable and future-proof because we are installing completely new infrastructure. Full fibre broadband will allow you to have access to speeds of 1gbps (1000mbps).

One of the many perks of fibre broadband is that the speed doesn’t degrade over distance and over time. Unlike the copper infrastructure you have right now. The speeds you currently have on the copper network are going to continue to decrease, that’s why we want to install as much fibre across South Wales as possible, so businesses and homes don’t suffer with poor internet speeds and reliability
